Point House

A spectacular natural promontory presented challenges for this 4500 sf island residence and 1600 sf guest house / garage. As well as accessing dramatic views, the site is exposed to occasional severe weather conditions. The solution tucked the house among rocky outcroppings and used a curved roof to follow the lines of the land. Views were maintained and the prevailing winds slide over the house.

A natural color palette minimized the project's visual impact on the setting. Interior and exterior materials were selected for durability and ease of maintenance. The south-facing orientation of the house provides solar gain and abundant daylighting. Use of insulating concrete form (ICF) construction optimizes energy performance. Water caught from the roofs is stored in a 24,000-gallon tank underneath the garage.
